Philip Algozzini

Obituary of Philip S. Algozzini

Philip S. Algozzini, 93, of Howell Township, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.  He was born and raised in Brooklyn and had lived on Staten Island before moving to Howell, where he lived for over 20 years.  Philip served in the United States Air Force during World War II.  He studied art at Mechanic Art Institute, and apprenticed for five years at E. B. Dunkel Theatrical Scenic Studio with master French and Russian artists, assisting in scenic painting for theater, opera, and ballet.  For 41 years, Philip was employed at the Columbia Broadcasting System as a scenic artist, painting the backgrounds for many Emmy Award winning shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show, Jackie Gleason Show, and The Carol Burnett Show the last 27 of those years.  Philip was the master artist responsible for all the New York based programming that required scenic backgrounds including daytime soap operas, Sunday morning news, sports, and specials.  Philips greatest joy after retiring in 1988 was being a grandfather to his three grandchildren, Christopher, Samantha, and Mark.  The impact he had on their lives was immeasurable and he will be greatly missed.

Philip is survived by his wife, Phyllis Algozzini of Howell Township; daughters, Anne Aidone and her husband, Anthony of Hampton Bays, NY, Jane Eboli and her husband, Ralph of Westfield, and Barbara Langell and her husband, Mark of Red Bank; and grandchildren, Christopher, Samantha, and Mark.
