Obituary of Betty Johnson

Betty P. Johnson, 96, of Wall passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at CareOne at Wall. She was born in Island Heights. Betty was raised in Englishtown and had lived in Neptune and Howell. She moved to Wall in 2008 to live with her son.  Betty went to school in Englishtown, was a 1938 graduate of Jamesburg High School and attended Trenton State College. She was a member of the Daughters of America for 63 years, a past president of the Ruth Circle Presbyterian Women and a 1961 delegate to the Denver General Assembly.  Betty was a member of the Shore Area Council of Churches, volunteered for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and was a member of the Presbyterian Ministerial Relations Committee. She served on the Presbyterian Synod of New Jersey Camps and Conference Committees and was a camp counselor and director of Johnsonburg Camp for 16 summers. Betty was a former elder and Clerk of Session at the Presbyterian Church on the Hill in Ocean Township. She also worked as an administrative assistant at the church until her retirement. Prior to that, Betty also worked for the Asbury Park Presbyterian Church.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, James L. Johnson; sons, Gene Johnson and Chief James Johnson; brothers, Robert, Howard, Charles, and George Johnson; sisters, Marilyn Raulerson and Mary Palmer; and companion, John Thompson.

She is survived by her sons, Charles Johnson and his wife, Ruth of Wall, John Johnson and his wife, Florence of Garden City, SC and William Johnson and his companion, Regina LaMarre of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Johnson of Neptune and Oney Johnson of Wall; nine grandchildren, Ann Johnson, James B. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Kellie, Michelle Smith and her husband, Steve, Jennifer Johnson-Strapp and her husband, Jason Strapp, Kristen Scott and her husband, Ed, John B. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Liz, Dr. Meghan Womack, and her husband, Dr. Jay, William Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Dio, and Courtney Johnson and her fiancé, Dr. Matt Ottoson; nineteen great grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Matthew, Max, Alex, Gene, Eddie, Brady, Belle, Kaleigh, James, Aidan, Jack, Abby, Shane, Kyle, Bryce, Reid, and Immanuel; a great great granddaughter, Ryleigh; brother, Frank Palmer; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 4:00 to 9:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 AM funeral service at the funeral home on Friday, February 9, 2018.
