Obituary of Nicolino Alfonso
Nicolino Alfonso, 76, of Millstone Township passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010 after enduring a prolonged illness. Nick was born in Morrone nel Sannio, Italy, immigrated to the United States in 1946 with his father, and had lived in Sayreville before moving to Millstone 14 years ago. Nick was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Korean War, where he was a driver for President Dwight D. Eisenhower's son, John Eisenhower, a Brigadier General. He worked for the American Can Company in Jersey City and Edison for 35 years, retiring in 1989. Nick loved horse races, golf,and playing cards. He was known for his funny stories, Tom Jones impersonations and his off key singing. Nick will be remembered for the honorable life he led, placing the highest priorities on being a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a man of his word.
He will be missed by his wife of fifty years, Carol Mongrella Alfonso of Millstone; three daughters: Gina Alfonso- Mitchell of Millstone, Angela Alfonso of Clark-Summit, PA and Susanne Studva of Brick; his brother, Nino Alfonso; his sister, Josephine Rossi; and four grandchildren: Cara, Cameron, Anthony and Joseph.
Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Thursday, June 24, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 8:45 AM for his rite of committal, followed by his 10:00 AM funeral mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 91 Stillhouse Road, Millstone Township.
