Obituary of William Brandeisky
William Brandeisky, 96, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Applewood Estates in Freehold, NJ. Mr. Brandeisky was born in Predlice, Czechoslovakia (today, the Czech Republic) and grew up in Europe during the Great Depression and World War II. He trained to become a master butcher and then immigrated to West Germany after the war. In West Germany he worked for the American government, and was an amateur boxer in Munich and Landsberg in his free time. Most importantly, it was in West Germany where he met Ethel Wiewiorka and they were married in Landsberg on March 11, 1950.
William and Ethel immigrated to the United States in 1952 settling in Queens, New York. William served in the United States Army after coming to the United States, and then returned to his trade as master butcher working first in the meatpacking industry of New York. In 1970, William and Ethel moved to Jackson, New Jersey where William worked as a butcher through Union Local 464, primarily with Shop Rite, for 25 years. They raised their family on a small farm in Jackson, where they grew a wide variety of fresh vegetables and raised pigs, lambs, chickens, ducks, and geese.
William was known as a “jack of all trades,” able to build or fix just about anything. He was always tinkering, adjusting, repairing or fixing things around the house. He also liked to fish, and in later years was a member of a local German club. He also took up the hobby of designing stained glass creations. His own father was a glass blower by trade, so in many ways his work creating art out of glass carried on a family tradition.
William was predeceased by his wife, Ethel, in 2007 after 57 years of marriage. He is survived by three sons, Dr. John Brandeisky and his wife, Rita of Farmingdale, Dr. Thomas Brandeisky and his wife, Cindy of Pt. Pleasant Beach and Howard Brandeisky and his wife, Kathy of Northbrook, Illinois; and six grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Nicholas, Lara, Kara and Paul; and 2 great grandchildren Raegan and Noah.
His family finds great solace in knowing he lived a long and beautiful life and is now at peace.
All arrangements were private and under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
