Helen Rynk

Obituary of Helen D. Rynk

Helen Doris Rynk passed away on February 4, 2025 in her home in Jackson, New Jersey.  Helen was 101 in earth years but decades younger in spirit and outlook. She might have sprightly persisted to 110 and beyond if not for a severe bone infection, which lead to her death.

Otherwise known as Mom, Ma’, Aunt Helen, Grandma, and Great Grandma (“GG”), Helen was born to Sophie and Konstanty Piasecki on July 21, 1923 in Turners Falls, Massachusetts.  She grew up in Hillside, New Jersey along with her brothers Henry and Ray, and her sister and best friend, Regina. Helen and Anthony Rynkiewicz married in 1948. Although their shared last name was shortened to Rynk, both Helen and Tony were fiercely proud of their Polish heritage. It pervaded their lives. Over their 50+ years of marriage, Helen and Tony raised three children and resided in Elizabeth, East Brunswick, and Howell, New Jersey. Four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and countless friends followed. Helen treasured all of them, and we all treasured her. Tony passed away in December 2009.

A truly modern woman, Helen did it all and did it well. She was a dedicated mother and housewife while also working at the Rutgers University library. She thrived as a librarian for over 20 years. Helen was well known for her hospitality and feeding her family and friends with her fabulous meals. She loved fun and games – casinos, playing bingo, scrabble, card games, any games. She was a Rummikub champion. In Atlantic City, Helen won much more than most of us, but probably less than she claimed. She loved reading, Dancing with the Stars and game shows. Until recently, she loved polka dancing with Tony and other family and friends.

Helen was a devout Catholic. While residing In Howell Township she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Freehold. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold, NJ 07728

Helen is survived by her son, Robert Rynk and his wife, Judy; and daughters, Joanne Scofield, and Donna Gonzales and her husband, Bob.  She leaves behind four grandchildren, Lindsey Rynk and her husband, Andy Clark, Michael Scofield, Dan Schratwieser, and Tyler Schratwieser and his fiancée, Annemarie.  She also leaves behind three great grandchildren, Everett, Alexandria and Emerson Clark. Helen is the next-to-last of a beloved group of brothers, sisters, and in-laws. She is survived only by Olga Piasecki, her brother Henry’s wife. We all will miss Helen dearly, and remember her with great fondness and laughter.
