Vincent Demonte

Obituary of Vincent J. Demonte

Vincent J. Demonte, a loving husband, father and grandfather, who embodied the ultimate in family values and ideals, and whose astute business acumen and work ethic served as an inspiration, died Wednesday in his Manalapan, N.J. home with his family by his side. He was 75.

Demonte was born and raised in Mola di Bari, Italy.  In 1962, at the age of 12, he emigrated to America with his parents, Antonia and Antonio Demonte, and his siblings, to share their dreams of making a better life for themselves in the “land of opportunity.”  The Demonte family settled in Brooklyn, where Demonte would eventually meet his future wife, Linda. The couple married in St. Thomas Aquinas R.C. Church in May 1974, and became the parents of two daughters, Deena and Toni Ann.  The Demontes celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year.  Demonte served his country as a member of the Army National Guard, the oldest component of the U.S. Armed Forces, where he was stationed in Fort Sill, Okla.  In 1978 the couple purchased a home in New Springville and in later years, another home in Prince’s Bay. In 2017 they relocated to Manalapan, N.J.

DEMONTE’S CAREER

As a young adult, Demonte became a bond specialist on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, a position he held for several years.  He later ventured into the private sector and became the owner of a number of businesses, all of which attained success.  Within several years, he and his sister, Maria Buonsante, became the owners of Bocelli Ristorante, the Grasmere dining spot/supper club that took its name from the Italian classical singer with the famed tenor voice.

Linda Gill, a longtime employee and friend, who met Demonte when she entered the business world, noted, “Vinny made every life he touched better.”

Demonte retired several years ago to spend more quality time with his family.

HONORS AND ACCOLADES

In 2007 the business entrepreneur was honored by the Staten Island Friends For Hospice Care at their “Celebrate Life Gala, Stars of Life,” where he was recognized for his fundraising and charitable efforts.  In 2013 he was the recipient of the Louis R. Miller Business Leadership Award sponsored by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and the Staten Island Advance.  And in 2014 Demonte garnered accolades when he received a prestigious award at the annual St. Padre Pio Dinner, sponsored by the St. Pio of Pietrelcina Society of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, South Beach.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

Demonte enjoyed sharing good times with family members and friends — especially his grandchildren.  With a special affection for the outdoors and golf, he cherished sunny days on lush green fairways, oftentimes with his grandson, Jack Vincent.  He also delighted being a proud spectator at his grandchildren’s after school activities that included baseball and soccer games, and cheerleading and dance competitions.

“Dad will be forever be missed especially during his grandchildren’s milestones and special events,” said Demonte’s daughters, Deena Mondi and Toni Ann Murphy. “He lived a selfless life filled with love always enjoying the moments he proudly shared with others. He was a consummate gentleman, filled with class and composure and honesty and loyalty at all times — and in any type of situation.”

He also made time to tend to his garden and care for his fig trees.  And when it came time for family vacations, he looked forward to taking jaunts to Aruba.

In addition to his wife, Linda Demonte, his two daughters, Deena Mondi and her husband, Mark, and Toni Ann Murphy and her husband, Kevin, and four grandchildren, Alexandra Marie and Mark Vincent Mondi and Jack Vincent and Juliet Rose Murphy, Demonte is survived by two brothers, John Demonte and his wife, Michelina, and Larry Demonte and his wife, Dolores; three sisters, Maria Buonsante and her husband, Nicholas, Rosa Demonte, and Michelle Petropoulos and her husband, Nick; his mother-in-law, Isabelle Faust, 24 nieces and nephews and 16 great-nieces and nephews.
