Obituary of Catherine Hechler

Catherine Hechler, 72, of Freehold passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was born in Bronx, New York, raised in Manhattan, and settled in Freehold where she raised her family. Catherine was a 1970 graduate of the Sacred Heart of Mary High School. She enjoyed arts and crafts, especially painting. Catherine was a lover of prime tv (in her words, “Ray Donovan, hubba bubba”), musicals, and movies. She was often found behind the camera lens capturing many family memories. Over the years, she was a stranger to no one and thanks to modern technology, was able to reconnect with many friends and family bringing her immense joy.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Peter Hechler, Jr.. Catherine is survived by her son, Bryan Hechler and his wife, Alissa; daughter, Elizabeth Bergman; granddaughter, Abigail Bergman (father, Paul Bergman); sister, Jean Fitzgerald and her husband, William; and brother, Dennis Kinzler along with her nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 2:00 to 5:30 PM with her funeral service to begin at 5:30 PM. Interment will take place on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 1:00 PM in Brigadier General William C. Doyle New Jersey Veteran Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown.
