Obituary of Eleanor Foley

Eleanor Foley, 97, of the Township of Washington and formerly of the Surrey Downs Community in Freehold and Bayonne passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Hackensack Meridan Pascack Valley Medical Center, Westwood. Eleanor was a life-long resident of Bayonne until retiring to the Surrey Downs Community in 1997. Just recently she moved to the Township of Washington to be closer to her daughter. Eleanor retired as a packer in the meat department at Shop Rite in Bayonne with over 25 years of loyal service in the early 1990's. As a young woman she worked at Maidenform as a seamstress. She was a former parishioner of both St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Bayonne and St. Catherine of Siena, Farmingdale. In Bayonne, Eleanor, along with her husband, could be found having a good time anywhere and often at the VFW or the American Legion. She relished her trips to Atlantic City and playing cards, especially Canasta. Crocheting was something that Eleanor learned to do over the years and had an knack for. Yet most of all being "Mom Mom" was all that mattered. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, John Foley and her two sisters, Geneive Lynch and Delores Jones. She is survived by her three children, Diane Damato and her husband, Carmen of the Township of Washington, John Foley and his wife, Mary of Manalapan, and James Foley and his wife, Nancy of Cape Coral, FL; five grandchildren, Jennifer Palmeri and her husband, Kevin, Michelle Damato, Jason Foley and his wife, Alison, Justin Foley and his wife, Katie, and Ryan Foley; six great grandchildren, Christian, Ella, Dominic, Grace, Mayla, and Nora. A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Monday, February 24, 2025 at 9:00 AM for the procession to her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 31 Asbury Avenue, Farmingdale. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown.
