Obituary of Barbara C. Horter

Barbara C. Horter, 74, a lifelong resident of Wanamassa passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.  Devoted to making a difference, Barbara  was a special education teacher in the Lacey Township School District for over 30 years.  She was giving of her time, coaching the Special Olympics and was proud to be honored as the Volunteer of the Year in 2006.  A graduate of Monmouth University, her friendships ran deep and she continued spending time with her sorority sisters, a bond that lasted her lifetime.  Barbara also loved to spend time at Loch Arbour Beach. 

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Miriam Horter; and two sisters, Kathy Mansfield and Joann Edwards.  Barbara is survived by her sister, Patricia Torchia and her husband, Joseph Sr.; nephew, Joseph Torchia, Jr. and his wife, Krystle; niece, Nannette Cogill and her husband, James; and great nieces and nephews, Brandon Cogill, Cassidy Cogill, Madeline Torchia, Joseph C. Torchia and Olivia Torchia. 

Visitation will be held a the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.  Interment will be private.  For those who desire, donations in memory of Barbara may be made to the Special Olympics New Jersey, One Eunice Kennedy Shriver Way, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.  For information, directions or to leave condolence messages for the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
