Obituary of William J. FitzGerald

William J. FitzGerald, 89, of Howell Township passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at CareOne at Wall. He was born and raised in Edgewater and had lived in Spring Lake before settling in Howell in 1994.  William worked as a Port Operations Manager for Mazda Port Newark for over 15 years.  Throughout his life, William achieved many accomplishments, including being a proud Marine, a former Councilman in Edgewater, and most importantly, a loving grandfather to his grandchildren. He had a passion for sports, particularly as a Notre Dame fan, and enjoyed spending his free time reading. He will be remembered for his love for his family.

He is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Beatrice FitzGerald; sister, Barbara Wilcox; best friend and cousin, Michael McPartland; and brother-in-law, Alan Howard. William is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan FitzGerald; two children, Noreen DeMarinis and her husband, Vincent of Howell and son, William FitzGerald of Washington, DC; five grandchildren, Vinnie and his wife, Lea, Jenna, Megan, Jack and Kelly; sisters Noreen Howard and Jean Bartos; numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:30 AM Funeral Mass on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.
