Obituary of Maryann Grabley

The end of a life of the most caring person.

Maryann T. (nee Dyas) Grabley, 81, of Union Beach passed away peacefully at Complete Care at Bayshore on Monday, March 3, 2025.  Maryann was born in Jersey City and was the oldest of twelve children of Thomas and Ann Dyas.  She was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School, Jersey City State College and then received her master’s degree in education.  Maryann taught in the South Bronx, ran a clinic in Harlem, worked in a methadone clinic and retired as a volunteer.  She went through the ranks of the Union Beach First Aid Squad becoming Captain.  Maryann spent her life caring and doing for others.  She delivered three babies and saved a life.  Maryann was only 4’10” but was bigger than anyone. 

Maryann was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Grabley in 2015; her son, Stephen Grabley in 2020; sisters, Helen Koralja, Eileen Littman, Phyllis Mills, and Alecia Reeves; and a brother, James Dyas.  She is survived by her sisters, Kathleen Neely, Janis LaBarbiera and her husband, Dominick, Sharon Croteau and her husband, Joseph; brothers, Thomas Dyas and his wife, Alvina, Edward Dyas, and Steven Dyas and his wife, Lisa; grandson, Dillon Grabley; nieces, Lisa Abhanazy, Margaret Dyas, Jennifer DeMarco, Carrie Koralja, Christeen Littman, Kathleen Littman, Kelly Figueora, Susan Kries, Nicole Reeves; nephews, James Dyas, Jason Dyas, Dominick LaBarbiera, William Littman, Carmine Iemma, William Reeves, Steven Dyas, and Matthew Dyas.
