
Obituary of Edith M. Gabriel
Edith M. Gabriel, 99, of Jackson, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 10, 2025. Edith was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She lived in Howell, NJ, Toms River, NJ and Allen, TX before returning to New Jersey and just recently moving to the Bella Terra Community in 2019. Edith was a case worker for Monmouth County Board of Social Services for 19 years, retiring 1987. A woman of faith, she was a devout Catholic her whole life. Edith was a member of NARFE and the Monmouth County Retiree Group advocating for the rites of retirees. At one time, she was a member of the Toms River Computer Club and was a swimmer competing at the YMCA. Edith had a thirst for travel and could be called a world traveler. She was a wife, mother, grandma and G-Gma.
Edith was predeceased by her 1st husband, Alfred Kleban; her 2nd husband, Walter Gabriel; six siblings, Maria Sturcke, Harry Legenhausen, Anna Legenhausen, Chester Legenhausen, Carl Legenhausen, and Raymond Legenhausen; son-in-law, Vincent Fish; daughter-in-law, Shirley Kleban; and stepson-in-law, Will Yancey. She is survived by her children, Linda Heijmans and her husband Hendrik, Ruth Fish-Kleban, Frederick Kleban and his wife, Sherry, Judy Lang and her husband, James, and Peter Kleban; stepchildren, William Gabriel, Mary Borchard and her husband, Joe, Carol Yancey, John Gabriel and his wife, Jane, Susan Flores and her husband, Luis, and Kathie Garza and her husband, Robert; nineteen grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, March 17, 2025 from 9:00 AM until the procession to her 11:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 31 Asbury Road, Farmingdale. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle NJ Veteran’s Memorial Service, 350 Provence Line Road, Arneytown.
