Obituary of John B. Casey
John Benedict Casey, 87 of Bay Ridge Brooklyn passed away on March 25, 2025. He went peacefully and was with his family during his final moments. John was born July 31st, 1937 in the town of Abbyleix located in County Laois, Ireland.
At the age of 17, John left Ireland and went to London, England where he somehow convinced the local transportation company to employ him as a driver for their double decker buses. In 1957, John left Ireland for America and shortly after arriving met his beloved bride Margaret Shryane at a local Irish dance in Center City, NYC. They were a match made in heaven and soon married in September 1965. Together they had 2 children, John Jr. and Elizabeth, that they loved so very dearly.
John served as a superintendent for over 50 years at 28 Marine Avenue in Bay Ridge Brooklyn and was an electrician in the local 3 union for 30 years. Of all John’s career contributions, he was most proud of serving in the United States Army.
He was a family man that loved his many trips back to Ireland to visit his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins. He also was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished every moment with them.
Those who knew John best remember his love of laughter and a good joke. His amazing dancing skills and his 10 handicap on the golf course. They will also know that, as an Irishman, he required a proper cup of tea and would give you the following instructions “steep the bag in hot water for two minutes. remove tea bag. Do not squeeze the tea bag. Add two equal and then milk. Whatever you do, the mug has to have a white interior so that you can see the color of the tea before adding the milk.”
John was proceeded by his wife Margaret, his brother Joe and sisters Mary and Pat. He is survived by his sister Kathleen, his children John Casey and Elizabeth Macri, his daughter-in-law Diane, son-in-law John and his grandchildren Madison, Sydney, Christian and Brandon.
