Obituary of Jasmattie Sookhoo

Jasmattie “Daro” Sookhoo, 80, of Howell, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Daro dedicated many years of her life to working as both a seamstress and a teacher. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—especially gardening and cooking, which she lovingly shared with those around her.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dindilell (Ivan) Sookhoo; her sister, Inez (Berma) Sookhoo; and her brothers, Seebarack, Seasnarine, and Deocathahand Basdeo.

Daro leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through her children: Bhagmattie Persaud and her husband, Edrick; Gaietiy Singh; and Chandradat Sookhoo and his wife, Gaitrie. She was a proud grandmother to Christopher and his fiancée, Anesa; Avinash; Christine; Annela; and Lurien. Her memory will also live on in her cherished great-grandchildren, Shanaya and Kai. She is also survived by her siblings, Jassoda and Parasam.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. A funeral service will be held at 8:00 AM on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the funeral home.
