Subdeacon Anton Kofonow

Obituary of Subdeacon Anton Kofonow

Subdeacon Anton Kofonow, 75, of Lakewood passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at home on Friday, April 18, 2025.  Anton was born in Austria and immigrated to the United States in 1950, just before his first birthday.  His family settled in South Bound Brook, New Jersey, before moving to Lakewood in 1958, a place he would call home for the rest of his life.
He spent his career as a skilled technician with West-Ward Pharmaceutical Corporation in Tinton Falls and was known for his remarkable ability to fix just about anything, truly a man with golden hands.
Anton had a deep appreciation for nature and found great joy in watching birds. He also loved the game of golf, which brought him much enjoyment over the years.

Above all, it was Anton’s faith that guided him throughout his life.  He was a lifelong member of St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Howell Township, where he faithfully served as a Subdeacon.

Anton is survived by his wife of twenty-four years, Nina Kofonow; a son, Kyrill Petrosyan and his wife, Juliet; two grandchildren, Andrei and Emilia; siblings, John Kofonow and his wife, Renee, Anna Browning and her husband, Jacob, and Nancy Reese and her husband, Duane; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and dear friends from the church.

A Panikhida will be held at St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 200 Alexander Avenue, Howell Township on Monday, April 21, 2025 at 3:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM Funeral Service on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at the St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral.  Interment will follow in St. Vladimir Russian Orthodox Cemetery, 316 Cassville Road, Jackson.  For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the General Church Fund by clicking HERE.  For information, directions or condolence messages to the family, visit https://claytonfuneralhome.com/tribute/details/5691/Subdeacon-Anton-Kofonow/obituary.html#tribute-start .
