Obituary of Giuseppe Alberto Yannuzzi

Giuseppe Alberto Yannuzzi, 86, of Freehold, passed away at home surrounded by his loving wife and daughter on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.  Known as Alberto to his family and Cuban friends, he was born in Florida, a major industrial city and communications center in eastern Cuba.  He completed his high school studies in Camaguey, formerly Port-Au-Prince. He fled Cuba and moved to Mexico City, Mexico, before arriving in the United States.  Upon moving to the United States, he met his wife, Gilda, and moved to Irvington, NY.  Alberto continued his university studies, graduating from Mercy College in 1971 and Montclair State College in 1973.  

He began writing articles and Cuban Exile literature around 1980, while also teaching at Montclair University, Mercy College, and the College of New Rochelle, as well as teaching ESL to students in the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns.  Since then, his essays have been published by The Miami Herald, The Hudson Dispatch, and other prominent Spanish-language publications in North America for his outstanding work in journalism.  He was awarded the Juan J. Remos Journalism Prize and the distinction of being included in the prestigious Who’s Who in American Journalism.

He was predeceased by his parents, Miguel and Adolfina Yannuzzi; his great-aunt, Angelina; his brother, Miguel M. Yannuzzi; his uncle, Vicenzo; and his great-aunt, Gloria Cisneros. Giuseppe is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gilda Yannuzzi; sons, Carlos Alberto Yannuzzi girlfriend Mackenzie Haber and Jorge Tomas Yannuzzi and his wife, Alex; and daughter, Nancy Maria Valente and her husband, Darrin; grandchildren, Anthony, Chase, Abigail, Carter, Sofia, Hudson and Lexi; cousin, Lourdes; nephews, Miguel and David; and sister-in-law, Miriam Yannuzzi.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, April 28, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:30 AM Funeral Mass on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.   Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories, 300 Soldier Hill Road, Township of Washington, NJ.   In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Giuseppe may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  For information, directions or to leave condolence messages for the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
