
Obituary of Edna Wasson
Edna Wasson, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 31, 2025. She was born in Brooklyn and raised in Coney Island. Edna raised her family in Sheepshead Bay before moving to Staten Island. She briefly lived in Tottenville, spent many years in Great Kills and then settled in Huguenot with her daughter, Nancy. Edna then moved to New Jersey to live with her daughter, Alice, in 2024.
A woman of faith, she was a former parishioner of the Good Shepherd Church in Brooklyn and then Our Lady Star of the Sea and St. Patrick’s Church in Staten Island. Edna had an affection for animals and loved all creatures, big and small.
Family was everything to her. Edna relished her time raising her children and grandchildren. She was always creating memories throughout the years through family dinners, functions, and trips. Her home was always open, either just to stop by or to stay when in need. Her love knew no boundaries. Edna was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, with her most treasured role being “Grams”.
She was predeceased by her parents, James and Martha Wasson; brother, Kenneth Wasson; and son, Thomas Mohamad. Edna is survived by her daughters, Alice Giarratano and her husband, Paul and Nancy Cook and her husband, Louis; five grandchildren, Diane Gray and her husband, Ryan, Michael Giarratano and his wife, Flora, Kristine Janczewski and her husband, John, Nicole Levine and her husband, Peter, and Noelle Alexander and her husband, Benny; eight great grandchildren, Jackson, Sienna, Vincent, Vivienne, Charlotte, Ava, Jake and Aaliyah; and siblings, Raymond Wasson, Charlie Wasson, Johnny Wasson and Dorothy Barry.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 9:30 AM for the procession to her 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. For those that cannot attend in person, the family invites you to participate via Webcast, HERE. Interment will follow in Canarsie Cemetery, Brooklyn.
