Obituary of Luz Maldonado

Luz Maldonado, 85, of Bronx, NY passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY.  She was born and raised in Utuado, Puerto Rico and came to the United States at the age of seventeen. She lived in the South Bronx for the rest of her life and will now be laid to rest in Freehold, New Jersey to be close to her younger sister.

Luz, who we affectionately referred to as Titi Luz, was a woman of deep faith. She loved God as much as she loved her family. Her kind, sweet, thoughtful and generous spirit was shared with all those whose lives she touched. She was a caretaker for her parents, siblings, nephews and nieces all while caring for her beautiful daughter Lucy whom she adored. All of our lives are better because she was a part of it!  Titi Luz always had a smile on her face and the most infectious laugh that we will surely miss. She never used her time with you to talk about herself, instead her focus was always around the person she was with, making you feel like you were all that mattered to her. She enjoyed shopping and wearing sparkly jewelry but enjoyed gifting and giving more. She was truly selfless.

She was predeceased by her parents, Manuel and Emilia Maldonado; siblings, Irma Santiago, Carmen "Cuca" Nelson, and Hector Maldonado; sister-in-law, Blanca Valentin Maldonado; brothers-in-law, Tom Sheriff and Benjamin Nelson; niece, Emily Sheriff-Borrero; husband, Hector Carlos Reyes; and her long-term partner, Rafael Melendez. Luz is survived by her daughter, Lucy Reyes and her daughter's partner, Joe Lopez; siblings, Raul Maldonado and his wife, Elba, Manuel Adrian "Cano" Maldanado, Iris Gonzalez and her husband, Ricardo; brother-in-law, Raul Santiago; and thirteen nieces and nephews, Gladys, Sylvia, Raul, Maribel, Marilyn, Raul, Benjamin, Zoliris, Adrian, Albert, Dennis, Michael and Richie, and all of their extended families.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 9:30 AM for the procession to her 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.  Interment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, 299 Freehold-Englishtown Road, Freehold Township.  For information, directions or to leave condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
