
Obituary of Alexander Palmer
Alexander Palmer, 95, of Toms River passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 27, 2025. Alexander was born in Podvollochyks, Poland and had lived there, Austria and France before immigrating to the United States in 1949. He settled in Springfield, Massachusetts and then joined the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War. Alexander returned to Springfield and then lived in Brooklyn, Patterson, Hagerstown, MD and Parsippany before settling in Toms River in 1973. He worked as a tool designer throughout his life for many companies, Mack Trucks and Amtrak, just to name a few. Alexander was a member of St. Alexander Nevsky R. O. Cathedral, Jackson and the V.F.W., Post 129, Toms River. Always on the move, he bicycled, swam, played tennis, ice skated, and skied. Alexander had a passion for the game of soccer and was a skilled carpenter. He was a master chess player and was national ranked. Alexander even taught the game. Most recently, he was a proud member of the MAGA movement.
He made major financial contributions and visits to the site during the rebuilding process of the Alex Nevsky Church in Novocherkassk, Russian. During that renovation, 4 icons were commissioned by the church to be in the Saints names of his immediate family: Alexander, Ludmilla, Helena, Nina.
Alexander is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ludmilla Palmer; two children, Helen Johnson of Rutland, VT and Nina Pforr of Boston, MA; five grandchildren, Mark Johnson, Paul Johnson, Annalise Whalen and her husband, Zachary, Christian Pforr, and Beatrice Pforr.
A Pannyhida will be held at St. Alexander Nevsky R. O. Cathedral, 200 Alexander Avenue, Howell on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 6:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to his 10:00 AM funeral service at the Cathedral on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Interment will follow in St. Vladimir R. O. Cemetery, 316 Cassville Road, Jackson.
