Obituary of Robert W. Patterson, Jr.

Robert W. Patterson, Jr., 89, of Freehold passed away on July 23, 2025 with Barbara at his side. He was born and raised in West Long Branch, lived in Eatontown for 57 years, and settled in Freehold in 2023. Bob was a proud United States Army Veteran. He was the owner of Robert W. Patterson Mechanical Contractors in Eatontown and did work on local schools, as well as many other commercial projects. Bob spent 12 years on the Eatontown Board of Education, and 20 years on the Senior Citizens Housing Board, also in Eatontown.

Bob enjoyed traveling, especially to the Caribbean. He was an avid football fan, getting to experience the second, third and sixth Super Bowls in person and became a member of the Monmouth County Super Bowl Club. He loved spending late afternoons at Monmouth Park. Bob owned standard bred horses, leading to his success in horse racing in both Freehold and in Delaware. Those that knew him, will remember his amazing sense of humor.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Eleanor Patterson; son, Keith; and brother, Richard. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Barbara Orr Patterson; children, Barbara O'Connell and her husband, R. Stephen of Watchung and John Patterson of Eatontown; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Stephen and his wife, Judith of Eatontown; 10 nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Carol Orr of Sarasota, Florida; as well as many, many friends.

Bob was affectionately known as Poppy to his grand and great-grandchildren. They, as well as his children, will miss him and his unique brand of humor.
