Obituary of Florence M. Malibashka

Florence Malibashka, 98, of Freehold Township passed away at home on Sunday, August 10, 2025.  Born and raised in New York, NY she settled in Freehold Township in 1959 to raise her family.  Florence was faced with a profound loss when her husband passed tragically in 1970.   Despite the grief and challenges of being a single mother, Florence provided a loving and stable home for her boys. During this time, Florence worked at Freehold Raceway where she was known as Finish Line Flo.   In retirement she worked as the mailroom clerk for Saker ShopRite.

In addition to her commitment to family, Florence was a tireless volunteer.  She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4374, served two terms as President for the Freehold American Legion – Monmouth Post 54, and was also Past President of the Freehold Elks.  Florence was also a member of the Red Hat Society, an organization that encourages women to get the most out of life.

She loved trips to the casino and buying lottery tickets, shopping, dancing and was always ready to go out.  Though she wasn’t known for her culinary skills, Florence would never turn down an opportunity to take her family to dinner.  Her family was by far her greatest treasure, and she loved nothing more than spending time with them at all the gatherings, parties and celebrations.  They will miss their Mom, Gram, Grama Cane and Aunt Flo. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Malibashka in 1970.  Florence is survived by her three sons, James Malibashka and his wife, Ceceila of Manchester, William Malibashka of Freehold Township, and Dennis Malibashka and his wife, Barbara of Freehold Township; two grandchildren, Ryan Ann Fitch and her husband, Timothy of Freehold Township and Chase Malibashka and his wife, Erica of Cherry Hill; five great grandchildren, Greyson, Moorea, Weston, Easton and Ella; and many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, August 17, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM with her funeral service to take place at 1:30 PM.  Interment will be private.
