Obituary of Gary E. Davison
Gary E. Davison, 69, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on September 10, 2025, at MUSC ARTS Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born in Neptune, NJ, grew up in Howell, and lived in the area for most of his life.
Gary loved spending time in his vegetable gardens and canning and freezing the extra produce for winter meals. He learned to cook at his mom’s side and created wonderful meals using his home-grown ingredients.
Gary enjoyed league bowling at Howell Lanes and as a young man met his future wife, Susan Dykeman there in 1976. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and exploring the eastern United States with family and friends.
Gary was extremely proud to be a Life Member of the Adelphia Fire Company where he volunteered for 45 years and served as Treasurer for 40 of those years.
In 2017, Gary retired from Howell Township Fire Bureau and moved with Susan to South Carolina in 2020.
Gary was a kind man who loved to laugh. He was a caring man who could settle crying babies in seconds. He loved serving and protecting the lives of his community and his family. He had an ear for music and enjoyed singing in several church choirs .
Gary was pre-deceased by his parents Leon C. and Madeline Irene Davison and sister-in-law Kathy Davison. He leaves behind wonderful memories for his loving wife of 43 years, Susan, Brother Leon H. and his wife Palma, Brother Brent, Brother-in-law Douglas Dykeman and his wife Kristen Langenfeld, Sister-in-law Gayle Dykeman, nephews Brent Davison (Christine), Kevin Davison (Jamie), Zachary Dykeman (Ashley).
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a Fireman Service to begin at 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM funeral service on Friday, September 19, 2025 at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Old Tennent Cemetery, 454 Tennent Road, Manalapan.
