Obituary of Edward John Hoyles

Edward John Hoyles, 86, of Howell Township, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 15, 2025. Ed was born and raised in Queens, NY. He had lived in Edison before settling in Howell Township in 1973. Ed then moved to Vienna, VA, and then to Baltimore, MD, before returning to Howell Township in 2004.

 

He received his bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering and then served his country stateside in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.  Ed began his working career for Accuity Systems as a salesman. He then moved on as a self-employed programmer before opening Mobile Car Care as the owner and proprietor. After this, Ed began a new career as a recruiter. He became a V.P. at Kehler Associates, recruiting security clearance-level employees and went on to create FE Resources, his own security clearance-level recruiter. Ed retired from FE Resources in 2010. During his retirement, he worked for NJ Youth ChalleNGe Academy, a leadership academy in Fort Dix where cadets pursue academics to test for a NJ High School diploma.

 

During these years, Ed received his fifty-ton boat captain license and worked as a water pilot. He piloted water taxis in the Inner Harbor in Baltimore and the New York City waterways. Ed also delivered boats up and down the east coast.

 

While living in Virginia, Ed was very active in the Church of the Holy Comforter, an Episcopal Church in Vienna, VA. He served on the vestry in 1994 and 1995, was a Verger for many years, and supported multiple youth ministries.

 

Ed was the proud owner of "End Game", a forty-four-foot Aft Cabin Sea Ray Motor Yacht. Along with his partner, Dagmar, they traveled everywhere by car and boat. From trips out west to the BVI's, the thrill of adventure and meeting new people is what he relished the most.

 

Ed is survived by his life partner, Dagmar Walters; his sister, Sylvia Duffy, and her husband, Bob; his children, Douglas Hoyles and his wife, Diana, and Cheryl Hoyles; two grandchildren, Dylan Hoyles and Stephen Hoyles; and two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Lucy.
