Obituary of Mercedes Roman-Cabrera
Mercedes Roman-Cabrera, 82, of Howell passed away at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was born in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to the United States at the age of 15. Mercedes lived in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn before settling in Howell in 2014. She served as wonderful role model with a generous spirit, and a fantastic sense of humor. Mercedes developed a talent for sewing and embroidery demonstrating patience and a steady hand, as well as a green thumb when it came to gardening. She was a successful business owner. A polished and well put together woman, she had an enviable shoe collection, and never left the house without her makeup and hair done sporting her jewelry. She loved traveling, especially to Mexico, but enjoyed being anywhere with her family. Mercedes was a woman with a strong moral compass, values she passed on to her family, and lived every day to the fullest.
She was predeceased by her father, Emeterio Marinez; and siblings, Manuel Marinez and Giselle Romero. Mercedes is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Thomas Cabrera; children, Giselle Roman, Walter Roman and Annette Roman and her wife, Tracey Carpenter; grandchildren, Alexander Baumgarten and his husband, Thomas, Zachary Carpenter and Gabrielle Carpenter; and niece, Pamela Andriani.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 1:00 to 4:30 PM with her funeral service to follow at 4:30 PM.
