Obituary of Donald Joseph "Quigs" Quigley
Donald Joseph “Quigs” Quigley, 74, of Manalapan, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold. Born in Dublin, Ireland, and raised in Hounslow, UK, Quigs spent several years living in Staten Island before settling in Manalapan about 40 years ago. He worked in logistics for United Marketing Systems and traveled extensively around the world, with a special fondness for London, Japan & Hong Kong.
An avid golfer, Quigs was a longtime member of Eagle Oaks Golf Club, where he achieved a couple of “hole in ones” and formed countless long lasting friendships. Those who knew him there will remember his favorite chair and his signature drink—a Black Bush and cigar in hand. He loved music, especially Eric Clapton, and took great joy in singing. A true history enthusiast, Quigs spent much of his spare time reading and learning.
A devoted Manchester United fan who was often found cheering on his favorite English football team. A proud Irishman, he celebrated his heritage – and St. Patrick’s Day in particular with great enthusiasm and joy. Known affectionately as “Mr. Fix It,” he could repair nearly anything and approached every task with precision and care.
Quigs was also a co-founder of the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide, offering support to families in need. SPTS was instrumental in the passage of legislation in New Jersey in 2006 requiring public educators to have a minimum of two hours of suicide prevention training every professional development period. Quigs was deeply committed to giving back and was honored with numerous awards for this community service. In 2025 he received the William J. Cary Patriot Award, “All in, All the Time”. 2018 Making a Difference Award whose generosity of spirit has made New Jersey a better place. 2015 NJ State Senate and General Assembly Award for Service, Leadership & Commitment. 2009 Golden Bell Award from the Mental Health Association of New Jersey.
Above all, Quigs found his greatest happiness surrounded by family and friends, creating cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his son, Sean Michael Quigley; and parents, Frank Quigley and Betty Holloway. Quigs is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Roshan Quigley; sons, Frank Quigley and his wife, Marissa of Freehold and Matthew Quigley and his partner, Denise of Freehold; grandchildren, Layla Quigley, Mackenzie Quigley, Raegan Quigley, and Daniela Quigley; sister, Pauline Hayes and her husband, Phill; sisters-in-law, Karen Smout and her husband, Peter, Susan Newman and her husband, Terry, and Sarah Jeffrey and her husband, Paul; nieces and nephews, Peter, Corinne, James, Lisa, Robert, Emma, Andrew, Hazel, and Shelley; and many loving cousins.
