Obituary of George D. Patten
George D. Patten, 91, of Howell Township, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Neptune, he was a lifelong resident of Adelphia. To his family and many friends, George was affectionately known as "Pops." He was the former Chief of the Adelphia Fire Company and a devoted lifelong member, dedicating over 70 years of service. George also served as the Fire Company's Financial Secretary for 43 years and as a Commissioner on the Board of Fire Commissioners of Howell Fire District #2 for over 40 years. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served during the Korean War era and later enlisted in the Air Force Reserve at McGuire Air Force Base with the 514th Military Airlift Wing. George retired after 21 years and 2 months of military service with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He was a Life Member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and a Benefactor Life Member of the National Rifle Association.
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Patten; and siblings, Adrian Patten, Jeannette Blair, Elizabeth Megill, Margaret Snyder, Gloria Solinski, Alice Corrigan and Joan Biddle. George is survived by his daughter, Julie Del Pizzo and her husband, Angelo of Howell Township; grandchildren, Anthony Loizos and his wife, Christine and Jennifer Schwartzel; and great grandchildren, John, Megan, Gianna, Olivia and Donovan.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, November 16, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to his 11:00 AM funeral service on Monday, November 17, 2025 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle NJ Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown. For those who desire, memorial contributions in George's name may be made to the Adelphia Fire Company, P.O.
