Obituary of Doina M. Cherciu

Dr. Doina M. Cherciu, 68, of Tinton Falls passed peacefully at her brother’s home on Sunday, March 8, 2026. She was born in Bucharest, Romania, and immigrated to the United States in 1977, settling in Montclair. She lived in McKeesport, PA during her medical residency and later resided in Red Bank before moving to Tinton Falls in 1999.

Dr. Cherciu earned her undergraduate degree from Montclair State University and continued her education at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest where she earned her doctorate. Upon her return to the United States, she practiced medicine in Colts Neck and Lincroft before joining her brother at East Freehold Medical Associates in Freehold Township.  Doina loved shopping, traveling to warm climates, spending time in Brigantine and people.

She was predeceased by her parents, Stelian and Elena Cherciu. Doina is survived by her older twin brother, Dr. Mugurel S. Cherciu of Shrewsbury; her aunt, Juliet Boboc of Romania; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with her Orthodox funeral service at 7:30 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:30 AM Funeral Mass on Friday, March 13, 2026 at St. Gabriel’s Historic Church, 549 Route 520, Marlboro.  Interment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery and Chapel Mausoleum, Marlboro.  For those who desire, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Market Street Mission, 9 Market Street, Morristown, NJ 07960.  For information, directions, or to leave condolence messages for the family, please visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com.
