Obituary of Marianne Herring

Marianne Herring, 75, of Howell, passed away at home on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

Marianne was born on July 13, 1950, in Newark, NJ to Horatio and Elenora Gonzalez. She grew up in Newark and later started a family, becoming a longtime resident of Howell, NJ.

Above all else, Marianne’s greatest joy in life was her family and being a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother. She had a special way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. Whether it was family traditions, cooking family dinners, playing with her grandchildren, or making holidays magical, she created countless memories that will be treasured forever.

Marianne enjoyed reading, taking family day trips, watching movies, animals, music. She was happiest when playing games with her grandchildren and spending time with her children and husband. Marianne was a lifelong animal lover and always had a dog by her side. She was the biggest supporter of her children while they were growing up, becoming a dedicated dance mom and Monmouth County 4-H leader.

She spent 23 years as a devoted employee of Monmouth County Habitat for Humanity as a Family Services Manager, forming special connections and relationships not only with coworkers but also with the families she helped.

Marianne is survived by her beloved husband, Elliot Herring; her children, Jessica Mascaro and her husband, Philip and Kristin Gutman and her husband, Michael; her grandchildren, Jaxon and Lyla Mascaro; her brother, Ron Gonzalez and his wife, Carol; as well as her nieces, nephew, neighbors, and friends.

Marianne was predeceased by her brother, Gregory Gonzalez and her parents, Horatio and Elenora Gonzalez.

A gathering of friends will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 8:30 PM with a service to begin at 8:30 PM. Interment will be private.
