Obituary of Charles L. Morris
Charles L. Morris, 98, of Farmingdale passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Charlie was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and was raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He then joined the United States Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. Charlie then transferred to the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War participating in operations against the enemy in south and central Korea. He then lived in Avenel before moving to Farmingdale in 1973.
Charlie retired as a telephone installer for Johnston Communications, Kearney in 1998. Prior to that, he worked for New Jersey Bell and the Asbury Park Press.
Charlie was a member of the Marine Corps League, Cpl. Philip Reynolds Detachment #203 and served on the Honor Guard. He relished his time outdoors, especially tending to his vegetable garden and taking care of his yard.
Charlie was predeceased by his parent, Richard and Alfreda Morris and his brother, Robert L. Morris. He is survived by his wife, Madelaine Morris; children, James Morris and Charlene Sweet and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Michael and Nicole; daughter, Tanya and her family; his children and grandchildren from his previous marriage; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM (please arrive at 10:45 AM).
