Obituary of George Van Saders
George Van Saders, 85, of Manalapan Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Applewood Village in Freehold Township. Born and raised in Little Ferry, George carried with him the values of hard work, loyalty, and resilience that shaped his life and the family he cherished.
After marrying his beloved wife, Paula, the two began their life together. Living in Little Ferry, Hollywood, Florida and eventually moving back to New Jersey to raise their family. They lived for many years in North Bergen and later settled in Little Falls. In 2008, George moved to Manalapan Township to live with his son, surrounded by the love and support of his family.
George dedicated his career to the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles, serving as a head maintenance worker across several locations. He spent much of his tenure at the Secaucus Inspection Station and ultimately retired from the Wayne Licensing Center. His work ethic, reliability, and steady presence earned him the respect of colleagues throughout the state.
A lifelong automobile enthusiast, George had a deep passion for all things cars. Whether it was the roar of engines on a dirt track, the thrill of short-track racing, or the excitement of NASCAR Sundays, racing brought him joy and connection. It was a love he carried from childhood through his final years.
George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Paula J. Van Saders; his sisters, Eleanor, & Margaret and brothers Albert, Herbie and Richie. He is survived by his children, Stephen Van Saders and his wife, Jamie, and Lisa Colao; and his grandchildren, Jaclyn Van Saders and Nicholas Colao. His family will forever remember his quiet strength, his sarcastic humor, and the unwavering love he showed them.
All arrangements are private at this time and are under the care of Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. George will be laid to rest with his wife, Paula, at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa at the convenience of the family.
