Obituary of Barbara L. Campbell

Barbara L. Campbell, 71, of Howell passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at home.  She was predeceased by her parents Robert Layng and Eleanor Moryan. Barbara is survived by her beloved husband Neal B. Campbell of 47 years; son Spencer S. Campbell, son Mason W. Campbell and his wife Veronica, and daughter Emily H. Silva and her husband Jonathan; grandchildren Hazel and Carson Silva; sister Marian Bryk and her husband Bob, sister Janice Romisoukas and her husband Tom, brother Robert A. Layng and his wife Marie, and sister Melanie Besson; and stepsister Sandy Foder and stepbrother Kenneth Geigel and his wife Sara; as well as cherished cousins, treasured nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Barbara was born in Jersey City and raised in Edison where she graduated from Edison High School in 1973. Barbara was an active member of the Reformed Church of Metuchen as a teenager. She went on to get her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Lenoir Rhyne College in 1977. She spent her nursing career caring for adult patients from 1977 to 1998, primarily as a visiting nurse. She cared for the elderly from 1998 to 2005 while growing her family, and in 2006 she received her School Nurse Certificate from Monmouth University, allowing her to care for children in Freehold Township school system from 2005 to 2016. While her own children were in school Barbara was active in the PTA. She was an Elder of the Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church of Farmingdale, focusing on Worship and Music; she also ran the annual vacation bible school. In 2024 Barbara traveled to Rwanda to volunteer with her cousins at the Urukundo Learning Center primarily spending her time in the nursery, then continued to volunteer with Hope Made Real foundation to fundraise for the school’s continuing education.

In her free time Barbara enjoyed spending time with family, catching up with her many friends, watching the Yankees, sewing, and quilting. Barbara would often gift those quilts to friends and family, whom she treasured. Above all things, Barbara was a very devoted Mom-mom who loved to spend time with her grandchildren, Hazel and Carson, and already had infinite love for her third grandbaby on the way, due next month.

Barbara’s family cannot envision a world without her in it, but they are thankful that she left behind countless memories of joyful moments.
