Obituary of Calvin Joseph Pemberton

Once in a lifetime, you meet someone whose presence feels like a gift—someone so genuinely exceptional that it is hard to put into words, because no single word can embody all that they are. This person is beloved and unforgettable: charming, intelligent, generous, and wonderfully organized. Someone who has always placed family at the center of everything, and has demonstrated his love not just in words, but in consistent care, joy, and devotion. A man who possesses a beautiful creativity and spark—who is innovative, all about technology and gadgets, and always finding a better way. A person for whom Life was genuinely loved and celebrated: a love of gifts and thoughtful details, a love of music, a love of cars, a love of taking pictures and capturing moments, and a true eye for fashion—always appreciative, always noticing what was special, always making life brighter, and always choosing to view life through a positive lens. That kind of person is rare. That kind of person is CALVIN JOSEPH PEMBERTON.

Calvin Joseph Pemberton, the first of four children, was born on December 26, 1954, in the Parish of St. George, on the Island of St. Christopher (St. Kitts), West Indies, to the parents of Mary Jane Agatha Pemberton and Carlton Meade.

At the youthful age of 10 years old, Calvin migrated from St Kitts to the United States of America (USA) with his aunt, Eugenie Pemberton and her three children: his cousins. Upon arriving in the USA, Calvin and the family settled in New York City, where Calvin grew up and came into his own as a young man. From an early age, Calvin’s intelligence was unmistakable—and it was something Calvin heard often, because it showed in everything he pursued. Calvin excelled in school at every grade level, always setting high expectations , and never settling for “good enough.” Calvin even challenged his own comfort by choosing to attend a school outside of his neighborhood in search of a stronger education and greater opportunity.

Calvin attended a business-focused high school in New York City and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and later completing a graduate program in Finance from the Rutgers Graduate School of Management in New Jersey.

Calvin built an outstanding career as an Information Technology executive, with deep expertise in telecommunications consulting and operations management. Calvin’s professional journey began at AT&T, where he developed a solid foundation in telecommunications and technology. From there, Calvin took on increasingly impactful roles across the industry, including work with Ron Chernow Associates Telecommunications and Sterling Winthrop, Inc., where Calvin served in communications management. Calvin also demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit—founding CPI Communications, managing a start-up IT consulting company focused on helping organizations strengthen their technology capabilities. Calvin later joined Merrill Lynch as an Assistant Vice President, directing the design, development, and implementation of information technology systems and services. Continuing to lead with vision and expertise, Calvin then established Precit Solutions, supporting organizations with the implementation and upgrade of IT products and services.

Across every role, Calvin was known for leadership, excellence, and the ability to build solutions that truly worked for people and organizations. But more than anything else, Calvin’s greatest work—and deepest joy—was family.

Calvin and his beloved wife, Sandra, shared a love story that spanned more than fifty remarkable years. They met as teenagers; Sandra was still in high school and Calvin had recently graduated. Their story began when Calvin had just started at AT&T and Sandra began an internship there. What started as a simple act of kindness—Sandra speaking up on behalf of a friend who was too shy to express an interest—became something neither of them expected. Calvin’s interest was always in Sandra. After a true “good chase,” and a friendship and love that grew and deepened over five years, Calvin and Sandra were married on August 18, 1979. Their marriage became a beautiful example of partnership, joy, loyalty, and steady love—47 years of building a life side by side and choosing each other again and again.

Together, they raised two extraordinary children, Sasha and Ian Pemberton, and created a home where love was felt, lived, and protected. Family was everything to Calvin. Calvin’s devotion brought a sense of calm, strength, and happiness that bound the family together. To Sandra, Calvin was a devoted husband—present, supportive, and deeply engaged in every part of life. To Sasha and Ian, Calvin was an exceptional father: always showing up, teaching, encouraging, and making sure they felt loved and safe. Calvin made family life joyful. Vacations were filled with laughter, playfulness, and memories—annual trips and travels that included Disney World, Hawaii, Jamaica, St. Kitts, and so many other places. Calvin also had a special gift for capturing the moments that mattered, preserving the family’s story through photos and the everyday memories that now mean everything. Calvin loved each member of the family for who they truly were—blending beautifully with Sandra’s drive and style, Sasha’s intelligence and bright common sense, and Ian’s business savvy and passion for cars. The bond they shared was rare, strong, and remarkable.

Every holiday was celebrated because Calvin made sure love was always marked and always felt. Calvin never missed a moment—Christmas, Birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Anniversaries—Calvin showed up with gifts, flowers, balloons, cards, chocolates, and the thoughtful details that made each occasion feel special. It was not about the “things” as much as what they represented: Calvin’s steady devotion, Calvin’s joy in giving, and Calvin’s desire to make sure the people he loved felt cherished. Sandra and Calvin also had so much in common, including their Capricorn zodiac sign, especially in the way they built a life together—decorating their home, creating warmth and beauty, and making every space feel like family. Calvin was always ahead of the curve with technology and loved gadgets, and that curiosity and excitement carried into everyday life. And then there was the music—Motown music was a tradition all on its own. Sundays were Motown music time, and from the moment Calvin woke up, the house could be filled with that familiar sound. Even long drives became Motown music trips—music playing, memories being made, and joy woven into the simplest moments.
