Maria Ficorilli

Obituary of Maria L. Ficorilli

Maria L. Ficorilli, 90, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026. She was born and raised in Sulmona, Italy, one of four children. At age 18, she immigrated to the United States, making the transatlantic journey to begin a new life in Brooklyn, New York. Several years later, Maria and her sister returned to Sulmona to be married, arriving with bridal gowns made in New York City. Their double wedding ceremony—two brides, two grooms, one ceremony and celebration—became the talk of the town, with the entire town turning out to share in their joy.

After returning to America, Maria and her husband, Silvio, settled in Brooklyn, New York, where they raised three children. Later, they made their home on Staten Island, New York, and eventually in Jackson, New Jersey.

Throughout her working years, Maria was a talented seamstress who crafted blouses, pants, skirts, dresses, coats, and jackets. At one point, she worked for Jones New York, known for its quality wool coats and outerwear.

Maria was an exceptional cook who took great pride in preparing delicious, authentic Italian dishes. For her, food was an expression of love; she made sure everyone was well fed and always insisted there was enough to share, including leftovers for family to take home.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Silvio Ficorilli; and siblings, Tony and Frank. Maria is survived by her son, Anthony Ficorilli and his wife, Kim; daughters, Anna Prendergast and her husband, Vorrel D., and Marisa Casale and her husband, Marco; grandchildren, Marc and his wife, Jessica, Gabriella, Christopher, Isabella, Joseph, and Nicholas; sister, Giuliana; and many loving nieces and nephews.
