Obituary of Valetta H. Lucas

Valetta H. “Letty” Lucas (née Bennett), 93, of Moorestown, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Moorestown, with her husband by her side.

Born at her family home at 4 Valandora Court in Spring Lake, Letty was the daughter of the late Charles Paul Bennett and Alice Arnold Bennett. She spent many years working at her family’s business, Spring Meadow Golf Course in Allaire. Letty met her beloved husband, Leonard, through a mutual friend, and they were married on June 7, 1997, sharing many happy years together.

Letty had a lifelong passion for horses and was an avid equestrian, especially devoted to her beloved horse, Tacha. She was also a talented artist, and her creativity lives on through the artwork she leaves behind.

She was predeceased by her parents; her son, David Hulmes; her brothers, C. Paul Bennett, Jr. and Robert W. Bennett; and her sister, Ann A. Bennett.

Letty is survived by her devoted husband, Leonard C. Lucas of Moorestown; her daughter, Patricia Hall and her husband, Charles; her grandchildren, Robert W. Hulmes, Eric Hall and his wife, Brooke, Patrick J. Hall, and Crystal Hulmes; and her great-granddaughters, Noelle and Genevieve. She is also survived by her adopted son, Donny Boyce; her stepchildren, Donald Lucas and his wife, Janet, and Leonard Lucas and his wife, Patricia; along with several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Letty also leaves behind her loving nieces, Virginia Juralewicz and Erin Patrice Bennett, and her nephews, Charles Bennett III and James Bennett.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township, NJ. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Brielle, NJ.
