Obituary of Susan McMenemy
Susan (Kuhner) McMenemy, 73, of Freehold, NJ, passed away on Sunday May 3, 2026. She was surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on March 26, 1953, in Brooklyn, NY, Susan was the daughter of the late Harry and Dorothy Kuhner. She is survived by her sister Barbara McCarthy (the late Thomas McCarthy); her brother Richard Kuhner (Theresa Magniccari); her niece Jessica Edgeworth (Patrick Gallagher) and her nephew Thomas McCarthy.
On September 28, 1974, she married the love of her life, John McMenemy. Together they built a life centered on family fun, eventually settling in Freehold in 1984 where they raised their four children.
Susan dedicated her early years to raising her children as a stay-at-home mother, a role she cherished. As her children grew, she indulged in a retail career - a move her family suspects was largely motivated by her legendary love for a good employee discount and an eye for home decor.
Known as "Susie Q” to her friends and "MiMi" to her beloved grandchildren, she was happiest when the sun was out and her toes were in the sand. She had a lifelong love for the beach and lived for vacations spent creating memories with those she loved most. She found joy in simple pleasures - sunshine, sandy beaches, and a good happy hour spent with family and friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, John; her four children: Lauren Cugliari and her husband Paul of Manchester; Brian McMenemy and his wife Leandra of Howell; Christopher McMenemy and his partner Tim of Minneapolis; and Conor McMenemy of Freehold. She also leaves behind her five beloved grandchildren, who brought her endless joy: Julianna, Olivia, Millar John, Paul John, and Hudson.
In keeping with Susie’s generous heart, she asked that instead of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. For information, directions or to leave condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
The next time you’re at the beach, raise a glass (or a shell) to Susie Q. She’d want you to enjoy the sunshine.
