Obituary of Edward A. Degritis

Edward A. Degritis, 71, of Keansburg passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026 at home.  Mr. Degritis was born and raised in Newark.  He lived in North Plainfield for many years until moving to Howell Township and just recently in 2022 moved to Keansburg.  He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1972 to 1975 and then served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1975 to 1984 and was Honorably Discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant.  Mr. Degritis worked as a Master Technician Mechanic for many automotive dealerships and for many years at Crown Cadillac in Watchung.  He could fix anything, whether it was something broken around the house, a car that wouldn’t start, or a problem that seemed impossible, Ed always found a way.  He had a passion for RC Planes and was a member of the Somerset RC Club flying at North Branch Park in Bridgewater.  Ed was a die-hard fan of the San Francisco 49ers and passed his passion on to his daughters, son-in-law, and his grandsons.  His happy place was at the Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant, where he celebrated many birthdays and shared countless memorable moments with family and friends.

Mr. Degritis was predeceased by his sister, Linda.  He is survived by his two daughters, Amanda Ortiz and her husband, Joel and Rebecca Degritis; and his grandsons, A.J. and Antonio “Nio”.

All arrangements are private at this time by Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township.  For information or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com.
