Obituary of Muriel Y. Larsen
Muriel Y. Larsen, 89, of Neptune City passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side at Jersey Shore Post Acute Rehab and Nursing on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Muriel was born in Fitkin Hospital, Neptune, NJ. She was raised in South Belmar, completed St. Rose Grammar School and graduated from St. Rose High School in 1955. After high school, Muriel went to work as a secretary for the Bendix Corporation in Eatontown. While bowling in Red Bank with the Bendix crew she met her husband Bill. After a lengthy romance they married in 1961 and settled in Neptune City where they raised a family and built an everlasting life together.
When her children reached school age, Muriel worked at the Woodrow Wilson Grammar School as a lunchroom aide and a school bus aide. This led to her career as a school bus driver. First for pre-school children at Montessori Academy of New Jersey in Neptune and then for Coast Answering Service of Avon driving special needs children to Marlboro and cadets to MAST on Sandy Hook. After a rewarding career that she thoroughly enjoyed she retired in 1999.
As a mother and leader of the family, Muriel organized many camping trips with the neighborhood families and other close friends, forging memories that lasted forever. She also enjoyed bowling as a member of several leagues throughout her life. Muriel was an avid craft show junkie and was never one to pass up a garage sale sign always coming home with something, whether she needed it or not.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, William “Bill” Larsen in 2023. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Larsen and Marleen Maddix and her husband, Bob; sister, Joan Scott; niece, Colleen Alarcon (Julian); and nephews, Frank Scott (Christine) and Kevin Scott (Theresa) and several grand nephews and nieces.
