Obituary of Barbara Payer

Barbara Payer, 88, of Manalapan passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026 at her daughter's home in Freehold.  Barbara was born, raised and had lived in Bayonne until moving to Long Branch.  She then settled in the Covered Bridge Community in Manalapan in 2005.  Barbara was a woman of faith and was a former parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bayonne.  She relished her time reading mystery novels, crocheting, crafting and playing Scrabble, her favorite.  Barbara enjoyed shuffleboard and trips to Atlantic City.  Most of all, she was a devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Payer; her son, Alfred Payer, Jr.; and siblings, Edward, Thomas, Richard, and Stella.  She is survived by her four children, Judy Payer, Susan Walsh, David Payer and his wife, Jennifer, and Barbara Reilly and her husband, Mike; eight grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Smiga and her husband, John; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
