Obituary of Blanca Maria Montoya de Trejos
Blanca Maria Montoya de Trejos, lovingly known as “Mamíta” to her daughters and “Lita” to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2026, at 89 years young, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born and raised in Soacha, Bogotá, Colombia, Blanca carried the warmth, faith, and strength of her homeland throughout her life. In 1969, she and her husband, Saul, immigrated to Queens, New York, where together they built a life rooted in hard work, devotion, and family. In 2003, Blanca settled in Howell, New Jersey, where she continued to do what she did best - care for those she loved.
To know Blanca was to know selflessness. She greeted each day before sunrise, preparing breakfast and coffee so that her family would wake to a home already filled with love and care. Only after everyone was provided for would she settle into her treasured novenas and daily prayers. A devoted Catholic, Blanca's faith was the foundation of her life. She prayed endlessly for her family, friends, and especially for children of the world facing illness or hardship, offering each petition with unwavering hope and compassion.
A talented seamstress, Blanca had a gift for creating and mending. Whether it was a costume for a grandchild, a bathing suit, an alteration, or a loose button, her family always knew they could turn to her skilled hands. She worked alongside her beloved husband in the boutique they owned and operated in Queens, and throughout her life she found joy in helping others through both her talents and her generous spirit.
Blanca found beauty in the simple gifts of God's creation. She loved blooming flowers, butterflies dancing through the garden, frogs hidden among the greenery, and quiet moments spent outdoors. She enjoyed reading, visiting Atlantic City, and traveling home to Colombia to spend time with family and reconnect with the place she held dear in her heart.
In her later years, Alzheimer's disease gradually stole pieces of her memory, but it never diminished the love she gave nor the light she carried. Even as memories faded, the kindness, faith, strength, and devotion that defined her life remained evident to all who loved her. Though her earthly journey has come to an end, her light will never dim. It lives on in the family she cherished, the traditions she created, the prayers she offered, and the countless lives she touched.
Blanca was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Saul Antonio Trejos; her parents, Eladio and Mercedes Montoya; her siblings, Edilma, Elcy, Luis, and Beatriz; her grandson, Marcos Antonio; and her sister-in-law, Maria Cleofe de Jesus. She is survived by her daughters, Maria Mercedes Trejos-Garrett and her husband, Peter, and Martha Jacqueline Trejos-Young and her husband, Robert; her grandchildren, Martin G. Jacome, Jacqueline Adamczyk and her husband, Brandon, Cristian A. Garrett-Trejos, Alex L. Young, William J. Garrett-Trejos, and Samir M. Young; her great-grandchildren, Martin A. and Bianca C. Jacome; her siblings, Victor Jaime, Maria del Carmen, Rosa Delia, and Araceli; many loving nieces and nephews; and her beloved canine companions, Chance, her guardian, and Bandit, her protector.
To know Blanca was to love her. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved Saul and resting peacefully in the presence of the Lord she served so faithfully throughout her life.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 6:00 PM Funeral Mass on Monday, June 22, 2026 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold.
