Obituary of Diego Lopez
Diego Lopez, 86, of Manalapan passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Diego was born and raised in Palmira, Colombia and came to the United States in 1967. They lived in the Jackson Heights and Briarwood sections of Queens before moving to Manalapan, NJ in 1997. Diego was an installation foreman for Local USA 829, IATSE, working at the Javits Center and the Sheridan both in New York City.
A man of faith, he was a devout Catholic and always watched EWTN. Diego was a homebody and relished his time outside the house making it just right. Along with his wife, he travelled back to Colombia through the years to be with family and friends. He was a fan of the New York Jets but a true fan of the beautiful game, football/soccer and he only truly cheered for The Colombia National Football Team, Los Cafeteros.
Above all else, Diego was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an adoring abuelo to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Diego was predeceased by his brother, Julio Lopez. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Carmenza; two children, Liliana Donohue and her husband, Robert and Diego Lopez and his wife, Rachel; six grandchildren, Robert Donohue, Jr. and his wife, Caitlyn, Gregory Donohue and his fiancé, Tyler Fodiman, Matthew Donohue and his fiancée, Janey Schilla, Daniella Donohue, James Lopez, and Luke Lopez; and three great-grandchildren, Robert, III, Ryleigh, and Ryan.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 8:30 AM until the procession to his 12:00 Noon Funeral Mass at St. Gabriel’s Historical Church, 549 Route 520 (Newman Springs Road) Marlboro, NJ.
