Obituary of John G. Murdy

JOHN G. MURDY, 78, of HOWELL, died Thursday, Jan. 3, at Sunnyside Manor, Manasquan. Mr. Murdy was born in Irvington and had lived in Hazlet and Brick before moving to Howell 40 years ago. Mr. Murdy was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict, where he received two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post, Point Pleasant. Mr. Murdy was also an avid fisherman. Mr. Murdy was a salesman for Cal's Auto Supply, Toms River, retiring in 1994. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sheila Cornelius, in 1990. Surviving are his wife, Maria Murdy; a son, Russell Murdy of Point Pleasant; two daughters, Eileen Spencer of Manalapan, and Donna Annunziata of Jackson; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Eileen Ledford of Kansas City, Mo. Visiting hours will be from 2 p.m. Saturday until his funeral service at 4:30 p.m. at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township.
