BY BUS FROM MANHATTAN
Take the New Jersey Turnpike to Exit 11 onto the Garden State Parkway southbound. Take the Garden State Parkway South to Exit 123 for Route 9 South. Continue south on Route 9 approximately seventeen (17) miles and you will pass the intersection of Routes 33 & 9 (Freehold Raceway will be on your left and Freehold Raceway Mall will be on your right.) Proceed south on Route 9 another three (3) miles until you see a sign for Route 524 East/ Farmingdale. Continue past the Park 9 Diner and proceed through the traffic signal at Elton-Adelphia Road. Bear right at the jughandle for Route 524 East. Continue east on Route 524 through the traffic light across Route 9 and proceed one block. The Funeral Home is located on the left directly across from the Dunkin Donuts in Adelphia Plaza.
Take the Verrazano Narrows Bridge to the Outerbridge Crossing, to the Garden State Parkway. Exit onto the Garden State Parkway southbound. Take the Garden State Parkway South to Exit 123 for Route 9 South. Continue south on Route 9 approximately seventeen (17) miles and you will pass the intersection of Routes 33 & 9 (Freehold Raceway will be on your left and Freehold Raceway Mall will be on your right.) From Wall Township, Belmar or Point Pleasant take Route 34 North to Belmar Boulevard. Take Belmar Boulevard West to the end. At the stop sign, turn right onto Main Street (Route 524). Continue through Farmingdale, making a left at the bend in the road at St. Catherine of Siena Chapel. Continue on Main Street (still Route 524) for approximately five (5) miles to Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home. The Funeral Home is located 100 feet on the right through the traffic light for Halls Mills Road, directly across from the Dunkin Donuts in Adelphia Plaza.
Take the George Washington Bridge to the New Jersey Turnpike South. Take the New Jersey Turnpike south to Exit 11, and exit onto the Garden State Parkway southbound. Take the Garden State Parkway South to Exit 123 for Route 9 South. From Trenton take Interstate Route 195 to Exit 28B. This will place you on Route 9 North, towards Freehold. At the ninth (9) traffic light on Route 9, approximately four (4) miles, you will see the Adelphia Plaza Shopping Center on your right and a Burger King Restaurant. Take the turn off for Adelphia Road (Route 524) and continue east. Proceed one block. The Funeral Home is located on the left directly across from the Dunkin Donuts in Adelphia Plaza.
Take Route 34 South to Route 537. (The Colt's Neck Inn is located at the intersection.) Turn right onto Route 537, traveling west. Continue westbound on Route 537 to the Colt's Neck High School. At the high school, turn left onto Five Points Road (you will be traveling south). Continue southbound on Five Points Road to the traffic light at the intersection of Route 33. Proceed through the intersection, and the name of the road changes to Howell Road. Continue south on Howell Road to the end, where it meets Route 524 (Adelphia Road.) Turn right onto Route 524, and proceed west. The Funeral Home is located 100 feet on the right through the traffic light for Halls Mills Road directly across from the Dunkin Donuts in Adelphia Plaza.
Take Herbertsville Road North to the traffic light at the intersection of Herbertsville Road and Route 547 (Squankum Road). Turn right and proceed northbound on Route 547. Cross over the Route I-195 overpass, and proceed north into the center of Farmingdale, where Route 547 becomes Main St. (Route 524). Proceed down Main St. through Farmingdale, and bear left at the bend in the road at the small Catholic Church. Continue on West Main Street (still Route 524) for approximately five (5) miles. The Funeral Home is located 100 feet on the right through the traffic light for Halls Mill Road directly across from the Dunkin Donuts in Adelphia Plaza.
Take Route 33 West. Cross over the Garden State Parkway, and continue west to the Collingswood Circle, which is the intersection of Routes 33 and 34. Follow the signs for Route 33 West. After passing the Collingswood Auction on your left, bear left onto Route 33 West. Continue west on Route 33 West (passing the Cabin restaurant) bearing left onto Route 33 Bypass West. Take Route 33 bypass to the exit for Halls Mills Road South. Proceed on Halls Mills Road South until you reach the traffic light for Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), and turn right. Proceed approximately 100 feet. The Funeral Home is located on the right directly across from the Dunkin Donuts in Adelphia Plaza.
Take Route 9 northbound. Follow Route 9 North towards Freehold. After you pass under the Route I-195 overpass, proceed nine (9) traffic lights on Route 9, approximately four (4) miles, you will see the Adelphia Plaza shopping center on your right and a Burger King Restaurant. Take the turn-off for Route 524 (Elton-Adelphia Road) and continue east. Proceed one block. The Funeral Home is located on the left directly across from the Dunkin Donuts in Adelphia Plaza.
If you are using a GPS device, enter our address as 50 Elton Adelphia Road, Freehold NJ 07728 and you will be directed to the correct location.
This is necessary because some GPS databases incorrectly place the location of 100 Elton Adelphia Road at a location WEST of Rt. 9. We are actually located 500' EAST of Rt. 9.
N.J. Transit Bus service to Clayton and McGirr Funeral home is available from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Take the 139 Bus to Lakewood, which leaves the terminal approximately every 15 minutes on weekdays, every twenty minutes on weekends.
Take the 139 bus to the “FREEHOLD TWP, US 9 AT ADELPHIA ROAD” stop. The bus stop is located on the northwest corner of Rt. 9 at Adelphia Road, in front of the Park 9 Diner. When you get off the bus, cross over Rt. 9 and walk approximately two blocks (500’) east on Adelphia Road to the funeral home.
The bus ride takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
The return bus follows a similar schedule. The bus stop is located on the southeast corner of Rt. 9 and Adelphia Rd. in front of Max’s Liquor store. There are several bus routes that use the stop, so make sure you get onto the northbound 139 bus, and not one of the other routes that use the stop. Although it is a N.J. Transit route, it is sometimes serviced by Academy Bus Company, so it might just be an Academy bus you have to get on. Just check with the driver when the bus stops.
