Obituary of Joseph Alexander Salkin
Joseph Alexander Salkin, 90, of Freehold Township passed away peacefully at CentraState Medical Center on Sunday, December 9, 2018. He was born in Savannah, GA and had lived in Washington, DC before settling here with his family in 1966. Joe was best known as the owner of Salkin’s Jewel Case, where he sold countless engagement rings and special occasion jewelry for 40 years. Also for over 40 years, he worked tirelessly with the Optimist Club dedicating time and effort to bringing out the best in youth and the community. He held various posts there including President, Lt. Governor, Governor and International Vice President. Mr. Salkin also volunteered with Freehold Township Little League and the Freehold Township Youth Athletic Association which helped fund the building of the baseball fields by the 3M property in the 1970s. He enjoyed playing poker with the guys and was a dedicated Mets and Giants fan. Family time was his favorite time.
Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sylvia V. Salkin; sister, Alice Fialkow; and brothers, Arthur Salkin and Philip Salkin. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Eric Salkin and his girlfriend, Rosanna Murphy, and David Salkin and his wife, Patty; daughter, Stacy Salkin; five grandchildren, Melissa and her boyfriend, Miles, Jesse and his girlfriend, Emily, Jake and his girlfriend, Colette, Rachael and Alex; and his son-in-law, Michael Konig.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 12:00 Noon funeral service at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. Interment will follow in Freehold Hebrew Cemetery, Freehold.
