Condolences
God bless you all. He was my PE teacher at school 1980-85.
I remember him well.
My sincere condolences.
Sam Spiers was my PE teacher and form tutor when I was in the 5th grade at Lady Hawkins School. He was a great PE teacher - he had a genuine love for his subject, and wanted his students to enjoy physical activity and sports. I remember a focus on technique and personal improvement which I found refreshing and inspiring. As someone who grew up to be a primary school teacher, I find myself saying to my pupils the things he said to me - "Get your feet right, and everything else will go right" ;-)
As well as that, Mr. Spiers (I can't call him "Sam", even at the age of 46) made.an impression on me by the kind of person he was. I remember him telling the class how difficult his life had been from leaving school with few qualifications - a powerful lesson as a 15 year old facing high school exams. I also remember him cooking an amazing Chinese meal for us on a weekend away. I always had the feeling he was someone with a rich life outside of school. That's a powerful lesson in itself. RIP Mr Spiers.
