Obituary of Gerardo Catalano
Gerardo Catalano, 94, formerly of Freehold passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at the House of the Good Shepherd in Hackettstown. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, lived in North Bergen and Jersey City, before settling in Freehold. Jerry was a deputy superintendent for Weights & Measures in Jersey City for 21 years. He bravely served for the United States Coast Guard during World War II aboard the USS General Wm. M. Black. Jerry’s family restaurant business led to his love of cooking and eating. He could be found playing games on his Kindle and reading in his spare time and playing the lottery scratch-off tickets. Jerry also took frequent trips to Atlantic City.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Concetta Catalano in 2015; daughter, Geraldine Besante in 2003; and son-in-law, George Besante in 2019. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Lynn M. Feeney and her husband, John of Succasunna, NJ; granddaughter, Lauren M. Feeney of Succasunna, NJ; great granddaughter, Ariana Feeney of Succasunna, NJ; and sister-in-law, Lois Catalano of Tucson, AZ.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, private services are being held on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township from 10:00 to 10:30 AM with his funeral service to follow at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to participate via Webcast on our website. Interment will follow in Brigadier General William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. A memorial service to honor Jerry will be held at a later date.
