Karen Halvorsen

Obituary of Karen Jane Halvorsen

Karen Jane Halvorsen, better known as “Mom Mom” or “Stinky” to so many who loved her, peacefully passed away at the age of 77 on March 11, 2024 holding the hands of her two children, after a hard fought 13 year battle with cancer.

Born on February 18, 1947 in Jersey City, New Jersey to William and Catherine Grant, Karen moved to Middletown, NJ as a child attending St. Mary’s Catholic School and was the first class to graduate from Mater Dei High School, making her a true original. Karen was employed by the Monmouth County Park System for over 25 years before retiring to enjoy the finer things in life, which were her grandchildren.

Karen is predeceased by her parents, leaving behind her two children, a daughter, Shannon Majeski (Tinton Falls, NJ) and a son, Dennis Halvorsen and his wife, Colleen (Howell, NJ). She has four beautiful grandchildren that were everything under the sun to her. Tyler Majeski (Franklin, IN), Cole Majeski (Fishers, IN), Russell Halvorsen (Howell, NJ) and Connor (aka Condor to her) Halvorsen (Howell, NJ).

Karen was a devoted mother and adoring Grandmother. She was passionate for all things in life, whether it was on the Pop Warner fields coaching Shannon in cheerleading or routing on Dennis for football when they were young. Her zealous enthusiasm carried on and continued as her children entered the high school sports era and eventually the collegiate level. She was a well-seasoned pro by the time her grandchildren began their athletic careers.  She was at every game, on the sidelines, sometimes even live streaming another grandsons game, so she wouldn’t miss anything. You knew Karen was on the field, she was the loudest fan.  The proudest fan.  She definitely made her presence known.  Everyone knew Karen was there and meant business!

A bonus grandmother and second mom, a Facebook enthusiast, a huge fan of Martell’s Tiki Bar, a competitive game player, an expert in her grandsons laundry, a martini aficionado, a beach lover, a force to be reckoned with, a genuine amazing soul. She was so much to so many.

Karen will be loved and missed by all who she has touched during her 77 years we had with her.  She has taught us what it is to be brave, strong, caring and resilient. When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. Her children, her grandchildren, family and friends now own a treasure chest full of riches.
