Obituary of Richard Hoidal
RICHARD C. HOIDAL, 73, of RED BANK, died Saturday, May 24, at Legacy Hopewell House Hospice, Portland, Ore. Mr. Hoidal was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had lived in Galveston, Texas, and Wilmington, Del. before settling in Monmouth County. He attended the University of Delaware and was a graduate of Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, Pa. He served in the Delaware and New Jersey Air National Guard. Mr. Hoidal started in the funeral industry at the Bodine Funeral Home, Asbury Park, owned by his aunt and uncle, Wilma and Harry J. Bodine. He then built the Richard C. Hoidal Funeral Home, Oakhurst. Mr. Hoidal then purchased the Worden Funeral Home, Red Bank, forming Worden Hoidal Funeral Homes in Red Bank and Oakhurst. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, State of New Jersey Funeral Directors Association, and the Monmouth and Ocean County Funeral Directors Association. Mr. Hoidal was a former member of the Planning Board and Lions Club, both of the Township of Ocean. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge 128, Asbury Jordan Lodge 142 F.&A.M., and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, all of Asbury Park. Mr. Hoidal was a past member of the Forest 39, Neptune. He was a past member of the Vestry Christ Church and a life member of the Historical Society, both of Shrewsbury. Mr. Hoidal was a former member of the Monmouth and Ocean County Development Council. He was also a member of the Red Bank Chamber of Commerce and the Monmouth Boat Club, Red Bank. Mr. Hoidal served as president and was a member of the Root Beer and Checker Club and also the recipient of their Eight Ball Award in 1988. He was a former president of the Red Bank Lions Club. He was a former member of the Redman Tecumseh Tribe 60, Wall. As a former member of the Neptune Jaycees, Mr. Hoidal served as director and publicity chairman. He was also a charter member of the 200 Club of Monmouth County.
Surviving are a son, Richard C. Hoidal Jr. of Gresham, Ore.; two daughters, Cathy M. Midkiff and her husband Mark of Laurel, Md., and Mary Alexandra Hoidal of New York City; five grandchildren, Amanda, Jerad, Isaac, Lindsay, and Ashley; two stepsons, David R. Hoidal and his wife Tammy and their children, Olin and Drew Margaret of Maine, and Matthew M. Hoidal and his son Aidan of Maine; a brother, Lars Ronald Hoidal and his wife Evita of Williamsburg, Va.; a niece, Maria Raney; and two nephews, Dr. Charles Hoidal and Christopher Hoidal.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank, 255 Harding Road, Red Bank. Interment to follow in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Richard may be made to the Michael J.
