Obituary of Robert Rommel

Robert Charles Rommel, 72, of Howell passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Bob was born in Newark and had lived in Keyport before settling to Howell in 1990. He retired as a service man for Lawes Fuel Oil, Red Bank. Prior to that, Bob worked at Raritan Copper Works, Perth Amboy and was the first paperboy for the Keyport Weekly. He enjoyed spending time at the Collingwood and Englishtown Auctions with his many friends. Bob was a great tinkerer and there was nothing he could not mechanically repair. He and his wife enjoyed many good years together as best friends. Bob was a fabulous gardener with annual harvests which were enjoyed by all. He will be missed by all who knew him. Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol; his children, Deborah Rommel-Connors and her husband, Thomas Connors of Jackson, Robert Gordon and his wife, Sandra of Naples, FL, Dawn Swannick and her husband, Michael of Boca Raton, FL, Patricia Springstead and her husband, Wayne of Manahawkin; three grandchildren, Kristen, Lauren, and David; two brothers, Walter Rommel of California and Douglas Carter and his wife, Vicki of Tennessee; two sisters, Lynn Stone of Florida and Catherine Anne Saunders of New Jersey; and his dear friends, George and Peggy Mangar of Belmar and Charles and Rhoda Zelasko of Englishtown. A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM Funeral Service at the funeral home on Friday, August 29, 2014. Entombment will follow in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
