Obituary of Joseph Coscia
JOSEPH A. COSCIA, 89, of HOWELL, died Thursday, June 19, at Centrastate Medical Center. Joe was born, raised and had lived in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Surrey Downs, Howell, in 1992. Joe was the owner/operator of the Narrows Service Center & Texaco Gas Station, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, until his retirement 17 years ago. Mr. Coscia was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II. He was a former parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, where he was an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society. Joe was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Farmingdale. Joe was a member of the Surrey Downs Men's Club.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Steven Nikitopoulos, in 1998. Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Viola Coscia of Howell; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dom and Apryl Coscia of Tallahassee, Fla., Gerry and Maureen Coscia of Manalapan, and Joseph and Nancy Coscia of Scarsdale, N.Y.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and John Agosta of Hazlet, Angela and Jim Nikitopoulos of Marlboro, Dolores and Frank Menken of Manchester, Grace and Andy Kittel of Iselin, and Clare Allen of Staten Island, N.Y.; and 17 grandchildren.
Visiting 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p .m. Sunday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends may gather at 8 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal followed by his 9 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Chapel, North Main Street, Farmingdale. Interment to follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
