Obituary of Robert Fleming

Robert "Mike" Fleming, 68, of Monroe, NJ and Naples, Fl passed away at home on Friday, December 12, 2014, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Mike was born in Neptune and lived most of his life in Farmingdale, NJ before moving to Monroe in 2010. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University and received his master's in education from NYU. Mike taught 7th grade Social Studies in the Howell Township School district for 32 years. He was loved by his students for how he brought American History to life and was well respected professionally by his colleagues. Mike was a modern day Renaissance man, who loved art, jazz, blues and classic rock, old movies, finance, wine and the company of family, friends and his beloved cockatiel, Dee Dee. He had a passion for his 72 red Corvette Stingray and for watching Rutgers football and basketball. Mike was the oldest of the four children of Edward L. Fleming and June Hall Fleming. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carolyn (nee Beiter) Fleming; his cherished sons, Mark A. Fleming and Adam C. Fleming; his sister, Mary Lou Moriarty and her husband, Bob; two brothers, Douglas Fleming and his wife, Karen and John Fleming and his wife, Jill; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Cathy Washburn. Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon with his funeral service to follow at 12:00 Noon .
